Changes in circumstance can often result in the need to de-clutter.
Big life changes such as losing a loved one, moving house, ending a relationship,
starting a family, even starting a new job, can all precipitate the need
for a major clear out of clutter.
Possessions that we have accumulated during certain periods of our life
can often lose their importance when our life changes. Frequently when
we are trying to move in a new direction we are being pulled backwards
by all our belongings and clutter from earlier phases of our life. We
want a fresh start without all the old stuff. How often have you heard
people say they just want to get rid of everything and start again?
Sometimes we hold on to items that belonged to someone who is no longer
in our lives. This might be through divorce, separation or death and getting
rid of these things can be a slow and difficult process. However, de-cluttering
marks not only an end but also a new beginning and can be a wonderfully
healing and cathartic process.
Sometimes people are hesitant
to get rid of things, for fear that they will regret it at a later date,
but this rarely happens. The freedom and space that de-cluttering will
bring to your life is worth far more than the items you get rid of.
